What Is AI Search Optimization and How Much Does It Cost?
In short
AI search optimization, also called generative engine optimization (GEO), is the work of making a business retrievable, quotable and correctly described by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews. At Paramount Exposure it ships inside the $5,000 Digital Estate, delivered in 10 days, with no retainer; the monitoring tools that publish prices run from $29 to $489 a month (read 2026-10-26).
AI search optimization is the work of making a business retrievable, quotable and correctly described by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews, and it costs from $29 to $489 a month for the monitoring tools that publish prices (Otterly.AI, Semrush and Ahrefs, each read from its own pricing page on 2026-10-26), or $5,000 one time at Paramount Exposure, where it ships inside the Digital Estate, a complete site delivered in 10 days with no retainer. The service is described on the AI search optimization page, the site is on the Digital Estate page, and every current Paramount number is on the pricing page.
The field has several names for one thing: generative engine optimization (GEO), answer engine optimization (AEO), LLM optimization, AI visibility. They all describe the same shift. Classic search returns ten links and a position on the list; an AI assistant composes one answer and cites a handful of sources, or none. A firm can rank well on Google and never be named in that answer. AI search optimization is the set of changes that make the firm's pages the ones the assistant retrieves and quotes, and that make the assistant describe the firm correctly when it does.
What AI search optimization is
An AI assistant answering "which med spa in Greenwich does lip filler, and what does it cost" does three things in sequence. It retrieves pages it can read, it extracts a self-contained answer from them, and it names the source. Each step can be lost. The crawler can be blocked by a robots.txt rule nobody reviewed since 2019. The page can bury the price in marketing prose the model cannot lift as a sentence. The firm can be an ambiguous entity, three addresses and two names, so the model hedges or picks a competitor.
AI search optimization works on exactly those three failures. It admits the AI crawlers. It structures each page so a correct answer can be extracted whole: an explicit topic sentence, question-shaped headings, a published price, a self-contained passage. It publishes machine-readable surfaces, llms.txt and entity schema, so the system resolves who the firm is without guessing. That is the whole discipline. It is unglamorous, and most of it also improves classic search, which is why Paramount builds it into every site rather than selling it apart.
How it differs from SEO
SEO and AI search optimization share a foundation: clean technical structure, real content, honest claims. They diverge in what they optimize for. SEO earns a position in a list of links, and its signals are links, keywords and page authority. AI search optimization earns retrieval and citation inside a composed answer, and its signals are whether a system can read the page, extract a correct passage from it and resolve the entity behind it. A page can rank first and never be cited because its answer is three paragraphs of adjectives away from the fact. The two reinforce each other more than they compete; the local search version of the work is priced in how much local SEO costs.
What the work actually is
Strip the vocabulary away and the deliverables are short. These are the ones Paramount ships, and each is running on this site where it can be inspected.
Knowledge files. llms.txt and llms-full.txt at the site root: the plain-text map of who the firm is, what it sells and at what price, read by AI systems before anything else.
Answer-structured pages. Every page opens with the sentence that answers its query, uses question-shaped headings, and keeps each passage self-contained enough to be quoted alone.
Entity and schema architecture. Organization, Service, FAQ, LocalBusiness and BreadcrumbList markup so an AI system resolves the firm as one unambiguous entity.
Crawler access. A robots.txt policy that admits GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended instead of silently blocking them.
Citation-grade reference pages. Pages with primary sources linked and limitations stated, the format assistants prefer to cite; Paramount's own are on the research hub.
Measurement. First-touch attribution that classifies visits arriving from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot, reported as a floor rather than a total, because assistants often strip the referrer.
An optional public endpoint. A read-only MCP server, documented at /connect, that lets an AI assistant query the firm's offers directly; what that means for a service brand is in what MCP means for service brand operations.
What AI search optimization costs
There are three ways to pay for it, and they are not three prices for one product.
Monitoring tools, by the month
The tools track whether assistants mention a brand for a set of prompts. Otterly.AI lists Lite at $29 a month for 15 search prompts, Standard at $189 for 100 and Premium at $489 for 400, with annual billing at 15% off and extra prompts at $99 a month per 100 (otterly.ai/pricing, 2026-10-26). Semrush includes AI visibility features in its SEO plan at $139 a month, Starter at $199 a month with 50 prompts tracked daily for one domain, and Pro+ at $299 a month with 100 prompts, all on monthly billing (semrush.com/pricing, 2026-10-26). Ahrefs lists Brand Radar AI from $199 a month with prompt packages at $50, $100 and $250 a month, on top of core plans that start at $29 a month for Starter and $129 for Lite (ahrefs.com/pricing, 2026-10-26). Profound publishes no price: a free trial and a custom enterprise plan (tryprofound.com/pricing, 2026-10-26). Peec AI publishes no price for its Starter, Pro or Advanced plans and lists Enterprise as custom on annual billing (peec.ai/pricing, 2026-10-26).
A monitoring tool tells you whether you are being cited. It does not change the site. The changes are the work.
Built into the site, once
The second model is a site built with the work in. Paramount's Digital Estate is $5,000 one time, delivered in 10 days, and launches with llms.txt, the full schema architecture and answer-structured pages. The AI Revenue System, from $25,000 in 21 days, adds AI-referral measurement wired into lead attribution. For a firm keeping an existing site, the layer can be scoped as a standalone retrofit, priced per project after the audit. There is no retainer on any of it.
Agency retainers, quoted
The third model is the monthly GEO retainer. Most of those prices are quoted on a call rather than published, so this guide does not list one; it only lists prices read from a vendor's own page today. The diligence questions are the same as for any retainer: which of the deliverables above will be done in month one, which are genuinely ongoing, and why month nine costs the same as month two.
Published prices, side by side
Vendor figures as read from each vendor's pricing page on 2026-10-26.

What drives the price
Prompts tracked. The tools price by how many questions they check and how often; Otterly's tiers are 15, 100 and 400 prompts, Semrush's 50 and 100 a day.
Models covered. Checking ChatGPT alone is cheaper than checking ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews on a schedule.
Whether anyone changes the site. Monitoring is the smaller cost. The structure, the schema, the knowledge files and the rewritten pages are the larger one, and they are front-loaded: built once, maintained lightly.
Measurement. Attribution that follows an AI-referred visit through to booking is engineering, which is why it sits in the $25,000 system rather than the $5,000 site.
What nobody can sell you
A guarantee. Whether ChatGPT or Perplexity names a given firm in a given answer is decided by the model and its retrieval layer, not by any vendor, and a promised placement in a system nobody controls is the clearest warning sign in this market. What is controllable is whether the crawlers can read the site, whether a correct answer can be extracted from each page, whether the entity is unambiguous and whether the machine-readable surfaces exist. Paramount does all of that, measures AI-referred visits so the change is visible, and makes no promise about mentions.
Frequently asked questions
What is GEO?
Generative engine optimization, the most common name for AI search optimization: making a brand retrievable, quotable and correctly described in AI-generated answers. Answer engine optimization (AEO) and AI visibility describe the same work.
Is AI search optimization the same as SEO?
No, but they overlap. SEO earns a position in a list of links; AI search optimization earns retrieval and citation inside a composed answer. Both need clean structure and real content, and most GEO work, schema, structure and knowledge files, improves classic search as well.
How much does AI search optimization cost per month?
On the tools that publish prices, $29 to $489 a month at Otterly.AI, $139 to $299 a month at Semrush and from $199 a month for Ahrefs Brand Radar AI, as read on 2026-10-26; Profound and Peec AI do not publish a price. Paramount charges no monthly fee: the work is built into the $5,000 Digital Estate.
Can anyone guarantee a ChatGPT mention?
No. The model decides what it cites. A vendor can control whether the site is readable, extractable and unambiguous, and can measure what changes, which is what Paramount does.
Do I need AI search optimization if I already rank on Google?
If your pages open with the answer, publish the price and carry entity schema, you already have most of it. If your rankings come from pages whose answers are buried in prose, an assistant can skip you while Google does not. The quickest check is to ask ChatGPT and Perplexity what your firm does and charges, and see whether the answer is right.
How to decide
Ask the assistants about your firm first. If they describe it correctly, cite your site and quote your price, a $29 tool to watch it is enough. If they do not, the fix is on the site, and the question is whether the site is worth retrofitting or rebuilding. Paramount Exposure is an AI development and software agency; its answer is to build the layer into the site once, at $5,000 in 10 days, rather than rent it monthly. The audit tool gives a rough read of your current site, and a free 30-minute call is the place to bring the answers the assistants gave you. Every current price is on the pricing page.
